I'll be Damned Part 2
When I first start sharing on the issue of the dam's I took a pretty educational informative direction and also started with the first dam in the region I currently reside. Instead of sharing what actually caught my attention, so I am going to do that now.
Welcome to the issue of flooding, immensely forceful flooding, power to move homes. Envision with me, you are where you are right now, and for reasons you cannot see or understand a river of water is presented you are in your car trapped now floating, you are in your home now collapsed trapped between debris and the water, you are walking down the street with your dog, they are separated from you the leash catches you watch them drown unable to reach them.
You watch everything you own, everything your neighbors own, your entire community shift into ruin. You are injured, you are traumatized and disassociated, you are grieving and you are displaced, you are alone. You get denied repairs after months of paperwork, then the deed is gone to flood, and the bank says this isn't your lot after all.
I started with the eminent domain, the creation of the utility companies, the creation of the dams and the lakes.
The lakes are playgrounds for millionaires.
The dams are neglected, run by various departments, some private, some federal, some state, some regional, some by the military.
Millions of people live downstream of dam's which in itself doesn't seem like responsible design. With failure to maintain the infrastructure and detailing so, millions of lives remain at risk to a sudden deadly disaster if a dam failure, a flood occurs.
Alabama has over 2 thousand dams, and about 217 of them are rating high hazard. We are also the only state without a formal Dam Safety Program this is set to change in the future months but as of now no changes have been executed past discussion or paperwork.
So up until now, and for the foreseeable future everyone living downstream from the identified high hazard dams, is an acceptable designated significant risk to life.
